A Deck and a Sunroom Steve and Cindy’s home overlooks acres of wetlands and natural prairie. It’s a wonderful site with strong breezes and southern exposure. The house had a small deck of plain, treated wood, and an underused screened porch, which they wanted to expand.

The deck was sited well for all-day
sun, but too small, and too plain.

The screened porch was undersized for dining, and needed more glass.

The back of the house, overlooking the wetlands, had plenty of room for the customers’ wishes.

The new deck would be three times larger than before.

To keep a good sense of scale, we overbuilt the structure.

It was important that the design of the new room fit the house, without looking “added on”

The customer wanted the windows tinted, as the room has a lot of exposure.

The deck was completed in the Fall. The sunroom was finished in February.

They have plenty of room now.

The deck material is Trex brand composite decking.

The metal balusters provide
a great view, are safe, and
do not require maintenance.

We finished the interior in knotty pine, with two ceiling fans.
